Domaine de la Gravelle
This property located in Gorges, at the heart of the Nantes vineyard and is one of the oldest properties of the Muscadet region. It used to be a 300 hectares property that was split up during the Vendée wars (French révolution). This estate expands on a 17 ha hill with a windmill typical of the Nantes area. The Melon de Bourgogne has found its vocation by adapting wonderfully at the Nantes terroir. The Vines are 65 years old and the vineyard has an quite uncommon terroir as its subsoil is made up of a volcanic rock called “gabbro” and covered with a layer of clay of 40 cm. The particularity of this soil gives our wines a minerality and citrus notes that are the signature of the winery. Veronique Gunther-Chereau’s reputation is based on “old muscadet” vintages and she and her daughter vinify only those cuvees from the best vintages and we rarely see more than three per decade. These exceptional cuvees have a high aging potential that surprises even the keenest of wine aficionados. This wine is bottled after having been kept on the lees for 60 months, and can be cellar aged for over 20 years in the best vintages.
